Devocional 28  —  La Confesión

«Si confesamos nuestros pecados, él es fiel y justo para perdonar nuestros pecados, y limpiarnos de toda maldad.» 1 Juan 1:9

Nelson Mandela pasó 27 años en la prisión de Robben Island, acusado por el gobierno del apartheid en Sudáfrica. Al ser liberado en 1990 y luego al convertirse en presidente, sorprendió al mundo con su postura hacia sus opresores: no solo los perdonó, sino que invitó a sus antiguos carceleros a su ceremonia de inauguración. Cuando le preguntaron cómo era posible, respondió: «Cargué el rencor en mi corazón muchos años. El día que decidí soltar esa carga, fui más libre de lo que jamás había sido, incluso estando en prisión.»

La confesión es eso: Es el acto de soltar lo que nos pesa. No es una debilidad, es el acto más valiente que un ser humano puede hacer. Vivimos en una cultura que justifica, excusa y culpa a otros. Pero el alma sabe la verdad. Y mientras el pecado no confesado vive dentro de nosotros, actúa como veneno lento y corroe la paz, debilita la fe y levanta una pared invisible entre nosotros y Dios.

La promesa de 1 Juan 1:9 es extraordinaria en su sencillez: «Si confesamos…» No dice «si somos perfectos», no dice «si nunca volvemos a fallar». Solo: si confesamos. Y la respuesta de Dios es inmediata pues El es  fiel y justo para perdonar y limpiar de toda maldad. Recuerda: Toda la maldad.

No cargues hoy lo que Dios ya pagó en la cruz. La confesión no gana el perdón lo activa en tu experiencia. El camino más corto entre la culpa y la libertad siempre pasa por el mismo puente: decirle a Dios la verdad.

«Confesar no es debilitarte ante Dios es permitirle que te libere de lo que tú solo no puedes soltar.»

Oremos: Señor mi Dios, vengo ante Ti con honestidad. Hoy te confieso lo que he cargado en silencio y no quiero seguir siendo prisionero de mis errores. Recibo Tu perdón  no porque lo merezca, sino porque Tú eres fiel. Límpiame y hazme libre de verdad. En el nombre de Jesús. Amén.

«If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.» 1 John 1:9

Nelson Mandela spent 27 years in Robben Island prison, charged by South Africa’s apartheid government. When he was released in 1990 and later became president, he stunned the world with his posture toward his oppressors: he not only forgave them, but invited his former jailers to his inauguration ceremony. When asked how it was possible, he replied: «I carried the bitterness in my heart for many years. The day I decided to let go of that burden, I was freer than I had ever been — even while in prison.»

Confession is exactly that: the act of releasing what weighs us down. It is not a weakness — it is the most courageous act a human being can perform. We live in a culture that justifies, excuses, and blames others. But the soul knows the truth. And while unconfessed sin lives inside us, it acts as a slow poison — corroding our peace, weakening our faith, and raising an invisible wall between us and God.

The promise of 1 John 1:9 is extraordinary in its simplicity: «If we confess…» It does not say «if we are perfect.» It does not say «if we never fail again.» Simply: if we confess. And God’s response is immediate — He is faithful and just to forgive and to cleanse from all unrighteousness. Remember: all unrighteousness.

Do not carry today what God already paid for on the cross. Confession does not earn forgiveness — it activates it in your experience. The shortest path between guilt and freedom always passes over the same bridge: telling God the truth.

«To confess is not to make yourself weak before God — it is to allow Him to free you from what you cannot release on your own.»

Let us pray: Lord my God, I come before You with honesty. Today I confess what I have carried in silence, and I no longer want to be a prisoner of my own mistakes. I receive Your forgiveness — not because I deserve it, but because You are faithful. Cleanse me and make me truly free. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
